Sports Programs
YBC-Youth Basketball (Grades 1-6)
The key concept of this program is designed around teaching the kids the love of the game, while developing a strong basketball skill set. YBC is a non-competitive league that promotes fair play, inclusiveness of all players involved and a strong emphasis on friendship and FUN. Practices take place one night a week and games will take place on Friday nights and Saturday afternoons at various locations throughout the city.
YCBC-YMCA Competitive Basketball Club (Mini-Bantam, Boys and Girls)
The YCBC Teams offer competitive programs to Boys in Girls in the Mini as well as Bantam. Participants will be selected by Coaches and representatives of the YCBC committee through a tryout process. Teams will travel throughout the province playing other club teams of their level. The competitive program allows athletes to push themselves to the ultimate level of competition and is focused on the development of each individual player as well as the team as a whole.
Karate for Kids (Grades 1 – 8)
Traditional Shotokan Karate is a dynamic art of self-defense youth of all ages will enjoy. This fast paced and exciting program, taught by qualified instructors, will bring many benefits to all of its followers; concentration, discipline, respect, control, physical fitness, self esteem and self confidence. Once young children have participated in the first class for a few terms and have learned the basics, they are ready to participate with their parents in the Family Class.
L’il Starz (ages 4-Grade 2) Big Starz (Grades 3-6)
Sure, chillin’ out is cool. But rockin’ out is a blast! That’s why you’re gonna love the Zumbatomic® fitness program for kids. It’s a fast-forward fusion of the Zumba program’s moves (salsa, cumbia, reggaeton, hip-hop and more) and high-octane workouts designed to let kids ages 4-12 max out on fun and fitness all at the same time. Safe and effective, kids can’t wait to get into the Zumbatomic groove. Watch their energy and fitness levels soar as they get the groove.
Gymnastics (Grades 1+)
A recreational gymnastic experience is provided to those who want to enjoy a gymnastics program without the competitive nature. This program allows participants to experience the basics of gymnastics while working toward badges and progressing through beginner, intermediate and advanced level classes.
Gym & Swim (Grades 1 & 2)
Youth are challenged to enhance their gross motor skills through a variety of activities such as group games, sport skills drills, relay races, parachute play, and theme based programming. Parents are invited to observe or participate, but these youth are very capable of attending their half hour gym class on their own!
Teen Conditioning Program
For kids 12-15 years of age to enable them to access the Wellness Centre. They will receive a Teen Weights Trainers card after they have completed the program.
Teen Fitcamp (Grades 7+)
Exercising with a group is both motivating and fun while being coached to focus on movement and encouraged to keep going! Taking part in this program will have many benefits that range from improved self esteem, able to focus better, have more energy & feel good. Improving your overall health with exercise like being a part of TFC can be a great way to take control of your life.

Youth Badminton Instruction (Grades 3+)
The YMCA Youth Badminton Instruction provides the opportunity to learn and develop in the game of badminton. Instruction will incorporate physical fitness, the rules of the game, singles/doubles games and basic/technical skills training. Skills training will include: grip, ready position, footwork, high and low serves, drop shots, smashes, singles/doubles strategies and placement of the shuttle. Tournaments and Mini Tournaments will be offered throughout the terms.
