TRE (Tension Releasing Exercises) (Low intensity)
Whether you are feeling stressed, overwhelmed by demands, experience tension headaches, or are easily frustrated, your muscles are tense when you have these symptoms. Muscle tension keeps the body and mind tensed up, the very opposite of relaxation. Stress symptoms, whether physical or mental, are directly or indirectly responsible for up to 80% of all visits to physicians. As part of physical and mental health, the body and mind need to relax. A daily practice of relaxation gives you a muscle memory of relaxation so that you can readily access it under stress once you have practiced it several times. This allows you to be less impacted by stressors and cope more effectively with them.
As part of their mind/body series, your YMCA is sponsoring Tension Release Exercises (TRE) as one means of developing a daily practice of relaxation. Classes are open and available Wednesdays at 5:15 in the J.D. Irving Room and Saturdays at 10:00 am in the Jones Room. No need to sign up. Your Y membership is all you need to participate. Come as often as you like. For more information contact Joan Wright at
