International Programming
The Fredericton YMCA has been actively involved in supporting overseas projects since 1967.
We have supported schools and medical clinics as well as programming for single mothers in the Dominican Republic. We have supported remedial education programs in Belize as well as an Eco-Tourism project in that country.
Currently we are supporting the work of the YMCA of Honduras and its efforts to ensure that the rights of young people in that country are protected.

Honduras Partnership
The Fredericton YMCA is acting as “lead association” for the thirteen YMCAs and YMCA-YWCAs of the Atlantic Provinces in the newly signed partnership with the YMCA of Honduras.
In November of 2007, as part of Peace Week Celebrations, three representatives from the Honduran YMCA visited the Ys of New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Newfoundland in order to sign a partnership accord. The Atlantic YMCAs will provide financial support to the Honduran YMCA and seek opportunities for exchange visits. The Honduran Y will help the Atlantic association develop a regional youth program.
The Honduran YMCA works in poor neighborhoods in the capital city, Tegucigalpa, and in the rural communities of Marcala and Taulabé, In a country where all too often both the rights and safety of young people are not secure, the Honduran YMCA acts as a champion of youth. Their programs focus on youth development, gender equality, and citizenship formation. The YMCA seeks to bring about societal change in Honduras by assisting young people develop social, cultural, political and educational skills.

International Committee
The Fredericton YMCA is committed to fostering volunteerism and to providing opportunities for individuals to engage in meaning volunteer work. The International Committee is a forum in which individuals interested in promoting international development can make a significant contribution to a more equitable global world order.
The International Committee has been active continuously since the days following the Second World War, when immigrants from Europe came to Canada in large numbers. At that time, the YMCA established a committee of volunteers to help these newcomers feel at home in their new country.
