Individual Conditioning Instructor Training

(Participants must be 16 years of age and in good health for all courses.)

Stage 1: Basic Theory: This is the pre requisite course that provides the theoretical foundation required to move forward to Individual Conditioning Leadership Training. Theory related to anatomy, movement mechanics and the principles of exercise design are examples of topics covered.

Stage 2: Individual Conditioning Theory and Application

Individual Conditioning Level I
- Conditioning Centre Guide: This four hour course emphasis building relationships with members in order to create a positive atmosphere in the Conditioning Centre where members can strive toward and achieve their goals. This course also introduces the concepts of functional and motor fitness and summarizes the benefits of strength training.

Pre requisite - Must be 16 years or over and do not need to have completed Basic Fitness Theory.

Individual Conditioning Level II - Individual Conditioning Basic Training Instructor: This course provides training towards supervising and leading individuals in Conditioning Centre Based activities that help them reach their health and fitness goals in spirit, mind, and body.

Pre requisite:
successful completion of the Basic Fitness Theory and the Individual
Conditioning Level 1. 

Individual Conditioning Level III - Individual Conditioning Advanced Training Instructor: This course allows an instructor to provide more advanced training with individuals at a "personal or individual coaching" level using methodology that is anchored in YMCA values and the uniqueness of the YMCA.

Pre requisite: successful completion of the Basic Fitness Theory and the Individual Conditioning Level I & II.

Stage 3: Apprenticeship Training: This is a practical application of the theory learned in each of the IC programs. During this time, you will practice teach with your peers the skills to help you gain the knowledge and confidence to lead a consultation or training program.

Pre requisite: successful completion of your chosen applied IC theory

Stage 4: Evaluation and Recognition: This stage includes actively engaging in consultations and program development for members in the Wellness Centre under the mentorship of a certified YMCA Leader.

Pre requisite: - Successful completion of stage 3, Current Heartsaver CPR, and Emergency First Aid certifications.

Stage 5:
Certification: Successful completion of a practical observation directly related to your choice of IC program.
