Group Fitness Instructor Training |

(Participants must be 16 years of age and in good health for all courses.)
Stage 1: Basic Theory: This is the pre requisite course that provides the theoretical foundation required to move forward toward becoming a Group Fitness Instructor. Theory related to anatomy, movement mechanics and the principles of exercise design are examples of topics covered.
Stage 2: Group Fitness Theory and Application: This course supplies the basics of group fitness class design, music, introduction to choreography, use of equipment, and adapting to participants' needs.
Part II: Group Fitness Specialty Streams: These courses apply the fundamentals to the specific type of group fitness class of interest to you.
Specialty areas: Hi/Lo, Step (Pre requisite is Hi/Lo), Group Cycling, Aqua-Fitness (Pre-requisite is Hi/Lo), Group Resistance, Group Core and Strength.
Pre requisite: Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Group Fitness.
Stage 3: Apprenticeship Training: Apprenticeship training is practical application in your specialty program(s). During this time future instructors will practice teach with their peers to help gain the knowledge and confidence to teach in an actual class setting.
Pre requisite: successful completion of your chosen specialty(s).
Stage 4: Evaluation and Recognition: This stage includes active teaching in ongoing YMCA fitness classes under the mentorship of a certified YMCA Leader.
Pre-requisite - Successful completion of Stage 3 and Current Heart Saver CPR certification.
Emergency First Aid is recommended.
Stage 5: Certification: Successful completion of a practical observation directly related to your specialty(s).
